The Australian Women Pilots Association (AWPA) is having a one night fundraiser with the screening of Voyage of the Southern Sun on Thursday 1 November. This is the story of Melbourne man Michael Smith who flew his little SeaRey seaplane around the world. Mike Smith was Australian Geographic’s adventurer of the year in 2016 for this journey, which made him the first person to solo circumnavigate the world in a single-engined seaplane, and the man himself will be there on the night to answer questions.
It’s on at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville with tickets at $25 per head. All funds go to the AWPA 1974 Memorial Award, which commemorates four AWPA members who lost their lives in 1974.
