Queens Birthday Weekend Fly-away Report
LFC members staged a successful and fun weekend fly-away to Dubbo on 10-12 June, with 14 people and six aeroplanes making the 3.5+ hour trip to the city in the NSW Western Plains. We spent a day exploring the best Dubbo had to offer then braved the 20-knot headwinds and slowly darkening weather for the trip home, but everyone got back applauding the weekend and the effort put in by SQNLDR Dave Marty in organising. Highlights of the trip were:
- Blasting out of LIL through blue holes in the fog
- Happy hour on night one
- Dinner at the RSL after an adventure trying to find the door
- Ordering the wine and having something completely different come
- Vicki Marty’s parking effort
- Western Plains Zoo complete with hippos, siamangs, tigers, lions, cheetahs and some very slow Galapagans
- Happy hour on night two
- Dinner at the Lion’s Pride restaurant
- Dave Marty’s spare ribs
- Visit to the observatory, complete with close-ups of the moons of Jupiter, Saturn and its rings, the moon, the Jewel Box and other stars of note
We will organise another weekend away soon. Destination: unknown.
