Mount Beauty Fly-away
To say the Mount Beauty Fly-away 11-13 March was a success would be a chronic understatement: it was nothing short of brilliant! The weather was the best we could have hoped for with little to worry about on both the trip there and back with, get this, tailwinds in both directions! No-one had any trouble getting into or out of what can be a tricky airport, and the weekend itself was loaded with good times, good food and, yes, some good wine. In all, 19 people in nine aeroplanes joined the party with club member Shane Stone hooking up with us for the Saturday and Saturday night. After arrival we made our way by coach up the twisty mountain road to Falls Creek and lunch at Huskis Cafe. Lunch was walked off on the short path to the iconic Wallace Hut, a gentle stroll among dead snow gums that took on a very ethereal quality. On the Sunday we toured around the region with stops at Yackandandah, Beechworth, Pennyweight Winery, Gapsted Winery and the top of Tawonga Gap. If you didn’t go and haven’t been, you need to put Mount Beauty on your agenda.
