LFC members staged a successful and fun weekend fly-away to Dubbo on 10-12 June, with 14 people and six aeroplanes making the 3.5+ hour trip to the city in the NSW Western Plains. We spent a day exploring the best Dubbo had to offer then braved the 20-knot headwinds and slowly darkening weather for the trip home, but everyone got back applauding the weekend and the effort put in by SQNLDR Dave Marty in organising. Highlights of the trip were:
We will organise another weekend away soon. Destination: unknown.

To say the Mount Beauty Fly-away 11-13 March was a success would be a chronic understatement: it was nothing short of brilliant! The weather was the best we could have hoped for with little to worry about on both the trip there and back with, get this, tailwinds in both directions! No-one had any trouble getting into or out of what can be a tricky airport, and the weekend itself was loaded with good times, good food and, yes, some good wine. In all, 19 people in nine aeroplanes joined the party with club member Shane Stone hooking up with us for the Saturday and Saturday night. After arrival we made our way by coach up the twisty mountain road to Falls Creek and lunch at Huskis Cafe. Lunch was walked off on the short path to the iconic Wallace Hut, a gentle stroll among dead snow gums that took on a very ethereal quality. On the Sunday we toured around the region with stops at Yackandandah, Beechworth, Pennyweight Winery, Gapsted Winery and the top of Tawonga Gap. If you didn’t go and haven’t been, you need to put Mount Beauty on your agenda.
A good, well attended meeting happened at Lilydale on 12 February. The notes from that meeting can be downloaded here.
Lilydale Airport’s Christmas Air Show is on at the airport on Sunday 27 November. Last year was a great day out for everyone involved, and there’s every chance this year will be just as good. Mark this in your calendar and be there! Have a look at the flyer below for details.
After the Hobart trip was torpedoed by bad weather, LFC flew to King Island on the Saturday of Melbourne Cup Weekend, then backed it up with lunch trips to Milawa on Monday and Echuca on Tuesday. The Echuca trip gathered five planes and 12 people, who made the trip after deciding Echuca was the safest and most logical destination, given that another low was moving in over the west of the state. Below are Sonya’s pics of the day.
Our Melbourne Cup weekend fly-away to Hobart ended up being a day trip to King Island due to some hideous weather forecast that would have trapped us in Wynyard for a couple of days. The upside was that the day for crossing to King Island could not have been better! Nineteen people in eight planes had almost perfect conditions for the trip and we had a good feed and got some cheese whilst we were down there. Thanks to Dave Marty for all his work on this. It’s a pity so much of it had to be unstitched at the last minute. Anyway, enjoy Sonya’s pics from the day below.
